This week saw us pick the brain of Johnny Wishbone, front-man for Sydney-based blues-rockers The Snowdroppers ahead of the release of their forthcoming album BUSINESS on August 28th. Following the release of BUSINESS, the band are set to embark on a celebratory national tour which kicks off Friday the Fourth of September in Canberra.

Do you have any inspiration for your live performance style, Any bands you aspire to perform like?
Any of the great frontmen/women really. Anyone with their own vibe or style or essence be it big and explosive or subdued and understated. I love Mark Lanegan for that reason. He doesn’t do much but you can’t keep your eyes off him. Kinda like Nick Cave too. Doc Neeson was phenomenal in that way as well. I’m obsessed with a live album by Sam Cooke called Live At The Harlem Club and the energy of that record is incredible. The way the band keeps vamping and is completely in sync with what Sam is doing is amazing. And I can’t forget Eric Davidson from New Bomb Turks.

If you were to construct an ultimate line up for a gig, who would be on it and why?
Is it a festival or a club night? Haha my first pick would be XTC as they’re my favourite band and I don’t think they’ve been here since the ’70s or ’80s, Mark Lanegan as I’m obsessed with him at the moment and I’d have to raise Frank Sinatra from the dead.

What is your favourite Venue to perform at and why?
R.I.P. The Annandale Hotel.

What is your favourite memory of a live performance you have done/attended?
Playing Blues Fest would definitely be a career highlight, for me I think it’s the closest I’ll ever get to feeling like I’ve played Wembley.

What do you think makes for a good live performance?
Look, I know many would mention booze or drugs etc here but I’m a bit of a princess so I’d have to say adequate tea and coffee making facilities and an a private toilet for that pre-gig nervous poo.

Who is the best band/artist you have seen perform live?
I can’t decide on an all time fave so I’ll just mention a few bands I’ve seen recently. I saw Royal Headache a few weeks and they were incredible. I’d kill for a voice like Shoguns. Just note perfect and so soulful and just the tightest band. I then saw High Tension the next night and they were brutal.

Due to unprecedented demand forthcoming BUSINESS will be released a week earlier than originally scheduled, BUSINESS is available for purchase in-store and online August 28th.The Snowdroppers are set to embark upon a celebratory national tour September fourth. Don’t miss your chance to see the collective set a new benchmark for their infamously sweaty, unruly live shows, as they come equipped with an album worth of new material and old favourites. The Snowdroppers are set to unleash a cultivated and raw energy upon audiences nationally.
